Nothing you ever see at a presidential appearance is there just because someone else outside the White House wanted it; every event has a White House advance staffer in charge of that site. They work for days (sometimes longer) to get the visuals, logistics and all the details just right to their satisfaction.

Been there and done that. For them to suggest initially that it was anything different is just plain stupid.

What a surprise, LOL. Big fat lies and the lying liars who tell them. Bush has only been to several hundred events that his staff advanced since he became a candidate in 2000.

Asked about it this week, Bush said the the crew of the Lincoln had created the celebratory banner, and that that it simply proclaimed that "their mission" -- in the Persian Gulf -- "was accomplished." Later the White House acknowledged that the sign had been approved by the presidential staff and hadn't been made on board.
