"The secretary of the Army has asked me to express his deep regret that your husband was killed in action ..." -- yeah, right.

Tip, you were talking a couple of weeks ago about how folks in your neighbourhood are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the war/occupation. The following story isn't really about that -- it's more of a 'human interest' story on some of your 200-odd dead and their families (well worth reading if you haven't already been inundated with such stories) -- but what struck me the most was the following:

<<"Why is it O.K. if he dies?" his cousin Vecie Williams asked. "The president don't care. You see him on TV. He says this, he says that. But show me one tear, one tear.">>

Seems this soldier may have died for want of a bulletproof vest ... ufb. Rumsfeld couldn't even be bothered equipping the troops properly before sending them over there.

<<Maj. Gary Tallman, an Army spokesman, said that nearly 50,000 troops in Iraq, more than a third of the total force there, did not have bulletproof vests, but that the Army hoped to have them outfitted by next year.>>

Sure hope the requisition order doesn't have to compete with another tax cut. <ng>
