LIG, with all respect, I think that "complacency" in this case would be to turn the other cheek. I think that the main reason that Al Qaeda did not perpetrate further attacks is that they would not serve their purpose. As it is, the American public opinion is split - and the Administration may have to pay - rightly or wrongly - a heavy price for the war in Iraq.

A major attack against the US would solidify support for the fight against Islamic radicals. They will attack us, unfortunately, sooner or later - when they'll think it will serve their interest.

Our enemies are crazy, but by no means stupid. One must assume that their madness has a system - and a direction.
