It's not about taking out Saddam, it's about doing it smart to minimize costs and casualties on our side. What was the big rush? From the stories I've heard, Cheney and crew were drawing up plans to invade Iraq for it's oil mainly prior to 9-11. They wanted to punish Saddam, but also change the strategic map by taking Iraq's oil and controlling oilfields from Iraq across Asia Minor, thereby neutralizing the power of OPEC, or becoming their own OPEC. And of course companies like Halliburton would be greatly eneiched in the process.
