Amen. And Shakespeare and American History and civics. I thought that data fit rather well with the pieces you and Rambi had posted. Obviously SOME money has to go to schools to run them. Land must be bought, buildings must be built and maintained, teachers paid, but throwing more money into a failing system accomplishes nothing. Unless you want to build a bigger bureaucracy. As we have proven repeatedly in this country. I think what you and Rambi were citing - -parent involvement and expectations- -hits much closer to the heart of matters. Ways of pushing that, such as TV and radio ads encouraging it and publicizing the connection between education and success, maybe encouragement of employers to provide some time for activities related to it, would accomplish much more.
