<no one accuses the Lebanese of apartheid>
Actually, I have repeatedly posted that the events around 1948 should be considered a reciprocal transfer of populations, rather than an ethnic cleansing by just the Israelis. And therefore Israel has a right to the land inside the pre-1967 frontiers, and the Arab States (Palestine, Lebanon, all of them) should permanently settle those Palestinian refugees (since they permanently expelled an equal number of Jews). And, since the Arab States confiscated the property of the Jews they expelled from Morocco to Iraq, there should be no payment for Arab land lost to pre-1967 Israel. To hold out the hope of returning to Jaffa and Haifa, and to refuse to make the refugees citizens, is one of many things perpetuating the conflict. Have I ever said differently?
What Lebanon does isn't apartheid, though. Do they refuse to recognise marriages between Palestinian and Lebanese? Do they refuse to let Palestinians who have married Lebanese move out of the refugee camps to live with their spouse? That's what Israel does, to Palestinians who marry Jews, or even Palestinians who marry Palestinians from the other side of the Green Line.
If it is a "foul slander", then it is one believed by the majority of people in almost every nation other than the U.S. and Israel. And it is one backed up by a lot of facts. |
