<why does Israel get pounded on more for minor offenses than the Arab countries for major ones?>

Because, as a U.S. citizen, my tax dollars, and my nation's army and government, are used to support Israel. The relationship between the 2 nations is so close, and has been close for so long, that I (and much of the world) consider Israel the de facto 51st State. This isn't true, for Lebanon or Syria. Or even Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

But I also think the U.S. should stop sending billions to Egypt, and not use our army to keep in power medieval despots like the Emir of Kuwait. The U.S. ought to stand for something, and that "something" is not Sharon or the Emir of Kuwait. As a nation, we've lost our way, gotten confused, and forgotten (except as empty slogans) the ideals of the Declaration of Independence.

I advocate Energy Independence, mainly to end the need to support all the corrupt illiberal undemocratic Emirs and Kings in the Middle East.
