HOT TECHNOLOGY

Business 2.0 magazine's editors came up with the top technologies to watch in 2004. Here's the top five:

• 1. Ultra-wideband: Low- power, low-cost and has 45 times the data transmission speed of run-of-the-mill Wi-Fi

• 2. Radio frequency ID tags: Allows retailers to track merchandise

• 3. WiMax: Wireless networks that extend as far as 30 miles and transfer data, voice and video at faster speeds than cable or DSL

• 4. Micro-fuel cells: Miniature fuel cells that run on hydrogen or methanol, used for phones or laptops

• 5. Gecko tape: Synthetic microscopic hairs allow gecko tape to stick to almost any surface without glue.
