What we're lacking now is pricing information. I posted recently that I've been having regular blood tests as my doctor tries to regulate my cholesterol without screwing up my liver. The tests run four figures, which seems a lot of money to me. Even though I'm not paying for it, I do care about the escalating costs that are inherent in our system. If I had info on how much such things were supposed to cost, I might be motivated to ask more questions. As it is, I'm as lazy as everyone else.

I wish we had a system of health insurance--a real insurance model rather than a health care model we call "insurance" so that we don't have to feel like we're on the dole. I'd like to see catastrophic coverage available and affordable for everyone, which wouldn't be all that expensive, and then we pay for the rest out of pocket, with charity covering the poor. I think that's the best way to keep costs down and to provide access. Of course, it would have been easier to do that before costs got so out of hand, harder now.
