Apex Digital Selects ESS Technology's MPEG-4 Encoder Chip For Solid-State Camcorder
Monday November 3, 8:03 am ET
FREMONT, Calif., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESST - News), a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital imaging, digital video and digital audio consumer electronics, and Apex Digital, a leader in consumer electronics and a major supplier of consumer digital entertainment products including DVD, TVs, digital still cameras (DSC) and camcorders, announced today the selection by of ESS Technology's MPEG-4 Encoder chip for their next generation of solid-state camcorder.
This new MPEG-4 Encoder chip with superior compression technology produces data rates that permit capture on a Secure Digital card (SD card) to store video, audio and still images. The SD card is a solid-state flash memory storage device that replaces the tape-based mechanical systems of traditional camcorders, allowing camcorders to be smaller, more convenient to use and cost-effective.
ESS Technology's ES7901 MPEG-4 Encoder chip has high quality video and audio compression capabilities and is ideal for the development of solid-state camcorders and other portable video and audio products. The ES7901 offers true natural motion 30 fps MPEG-4 video, high-fidelity AAC two-channel audio, and up to four mega-pixels digital still camera functionality. It also offers advanced technology for MPEG-4 encoding including I, P, and B frames, and quarter-pel motion estimation as defined in the MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) standards. In addition, its sophisticated pre-processing (temporal noise reduction) and post-processing (de-ringing and de-blocking) filters produce superior visual quality.
"We are excited to be the pioneer U.S. supplier to introduce a solid-state camcorder that records and plays MPEG-4 video using the state-of-the-art MPEG-4 Encoder chip from ESS," said, David Ji, CEO of Apex Digital.
"Apex Digital is a leading consumer entertainment supplier in the U.S. with national distribution through major retail stores," said Patrick Ang, executive vice president & chief operating officer of ESS. "We are extremely pleased that they have selected ESS to power their new solid-state camcorder products."
Apex's DV2100 new solid-state camcorder designed using the ES7901 MPEG-4 Encoder chip is a miniature hand-held digital camcorder and still camera with superior video and image quality. This camcorder comes with a 2.1 Mega-pixel CMOS sensor, LCD display, flash control, 64 Megabyte SD card (for recording up to 30 minutes of video), as well as an analog video and audio connector.
