RESEARCH ALERT - Montgomery on Ascend Reuters Story - August 11, 1997 11:27 %ELC %US %HOT %RCH ASND V%REUTER P%RTR NEW YORK, Aug 11 (Reuter) - Montgomery Securities issued internal comments to its sales force saying that Ascend Communications Inc's earnings for the first month of the third quarter appear to be lower than expected, a Montgomery source said. -- Source said that an 8K filing by Ascend listed the company's sales and net income for the month of July, which Montgomery calculated to equal about $0.02 a share. -- Noted the earnings are less than a third of Montgomery's estimate for Ascend's third quarter of $0.36 a share. First Call consenses estimate is also $0.36 a share. -- Said Montgomery had made no immediate changes to its rating or earnings per share estimates on Ascend. -- Shares were down 2-10/16 at 46-13/16.
