You can look at the returns of value mutual funds (TAVFX, DODGX, KDHAX) for one point of reference.

Excellent idea. I think I would prefer to look at the average absolute return of all fully invested long-only mutual funds over this period, rather than simply those employing a particular style like value or tech investing. Then again, I'm not motivated enough to collect the data myself so if we have any volunteers... :)
