Democratic presidential candidate's wife calls debate "silly"

Boston-AP -- His wife says presidential candidate John Kerry is about to engage in another "silly" debate.

Teresa Heinz Kerry tells the Boston Herald that the nine-way debates among the Democratic candidates are a waste of time and don't help voters or candidates.

She says debates among so many people "are really unproductive" and don't enable candidates to get a message across -- and that the candidates can only try to score a punch with a soundbite.

The senator's wife says Democrats should host smaller group debates that alternate among the candidates.

Eight of the nine Democrats are scheduled to appear in a 90-minute Rock the Vote forum in Boston tonight. It airs on C-N-N.
