The plundering of Russia during the 1990s in the name of free markets probably was one of the greatest rip-offs in history IMHO. Even today half the population lives in poverty -- more than under the communists.

Note that the neo-cons want to do same thing in Iraq. That , I suspect, is one reason that the resistance to US domination in that country is so fierce.
