SEC approves new rules for NYSE, Nasdaq ( AFX-Asia )

WASHINGTON, Nov 04, 2003 (AFX-Asia via COMTEX) -- The Securities and Exchange
Commission approved new rules revamping corporate governance standards for
publicly-traded companies which were proposed and adopted by the New York Stock
Exchange and Nasdaq Tuesday. The rule reforms include provisions to clamp down
on trading abuses and create boards of directors at each exchange and their
listed companies that operate independently from the firms they govern.
"Investors will recognize significant benefits from these actions today and long
into the future," SEC Chairman William Donaldson said in statement.
