If some stupid jerk in a truck made an unsafe
lane change, why was it my fault?

In all seriousness, I would imagine it was because he was(or would have been) in front of you.
Regardless how he got there, if you hit someone who is in front of you, it is your fault!
I learned that the hard way too.

A number of years ago, some bastard pulled out in front of me one wintery evening and the road was a bit icy.
Well, I was not happy with this guy ans decided to let him know it by throwing on my brights and getting up on his ass.
Well, he had other ideas for me.
He decided to teach me a lesson I won't soon forget.

He slammed on his brakes and I rammed right up the ass end of his POS pinto or something similar to that.
Anyhow, just happened to be a cop passing by before I could get out and rip into his other rear end.
I was steaming pissed
But the cop politely informed me it was my fault because I wasn't traveling at a safe distance.
Wound up costing me like $1300 bucks(and points against my license and insurance) and the damn bastard was grinning and laughing at me(with his passenger) all the while the cop was explaining to me how the guy $%^&#* me twice
<end of my rant>
Guess today is a day for rants<G>
