I like many of Rand's ideas but no.. I actually think much of our problems today are due to too many working parents so they can buy "things" rather than stay home and raise the kids. Why subsidize two people working just so they can buy two cars, two sets of work clothes, pay a nanny or day care worker who is often illegal? The Asian and Asian Indian families I know usually complain when their kids have an extra hour without homework. So much is expected of the kids they go out and ask for more classes! I contrast that to the American raised kids who want 1o minutes of homework per grade level. It is no wonder all they can do is work at Walmart.

anyway, we are off topic. I'll finish and say deductions for families just gets in the way of social Darwinismn. You want the weak to be thinned by predators. For a society, you want practices that make it stronger to not be hindered by government programs to slow the effects. I don't think 90% of what is bought these days by young families is NOT needed.... eliminate subsidies to have two parents work and perhaps we'll get better educated kids.
