-- Features Quick Simple Design-in for Schottky Rectifier Upgrading
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2003-- -- Provides 95%-Plus Efficiency at 3.3V Output
Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News) a leading manufacturer of power conditioning semiconductor devices and modules, announced today that its Broomfield Colorado Division has introduced the industry's first synchronous rectifier module for isolated power supplies.
Designated the SRM4010(TM), the new module is rated at 40 amps and is designed for isolated power supplies requiring an output voltage of 1 to 5 volts, typically found in telecom equipment, mainframe computers, servers, desktop computers, and automotive systems.
The new Microsemi module is being demonstrated this week at the PowerSystems World trade exposition in Long Beach, Calif.
"This is the first in a family of ultra efficient rectifier modules that we are developing in partnership with SRMOS Inc. of Seattle," said Sven Nelson, vice president and general manager of the Broomfield operation. "Particularly noteworthy is the ease with which customers can use these modules to achieve efficiencies above 95% when they upgrade from conventional Schottky rectifier diode designs in applications from 200KHz to 400KHz," he said.
By connecting directly to isolation transformer secondary windings, the SRM4010 module is fast and easy to install. A proprietary timing control prevents cross conduction and minimizes MOSFET body diode conduction.
A patented control, called Predictive Timing PLUS(TM), allows the SRM4010 to operate flawlessly under any operating condition, such as current or voltage mode control and hot load swapping. It adapts automatically to continuous and discontinuous load current conditions. While designed for single- or double-ended forward topologies, the SRM4010 can be adapted for higher current output in a parallel configuration.
Future modules will focus on other topologies, higher voltages ratings, and both lower and higher operating frequencies.
The SRM4010 module, priced at $17.43 for 1000 pieces, comes in a 0.8-inch X 0.8-inch X 0.28-inch high-current, isolated, surface mount package featuring a low thermal resistance of 0.35(degrees)C/watt and ultra low inductance/resistance connections.
Complete technical information and data sheets on the SRM4010 module are available on the Microsemi Web site, www.microsemi.com/catalog/part.asp?id=57780. To arrange for a demonstration board, contact Microsemi Marketing at 303-469-2161.
