The problem is that hate sells - people want to have their buttons pushed, rah rah you are the good guys and boo hiss look at all those bad guys. Political strategists discovered that long ago.

If you can psyche people up, bring out their anger or scare the living daylights out of them, they are easier to manipulate.

I don't see many voices on the American scene today who object to that. Certainly no one in Washington on either side of the aisle is trying to do much different. Even a basically decent man like Colin Powell has been sucked into the fudge factory with no way out, now that he has gone so far down the road with this crusade.

Sad.
