Arab anti-Semitism existed long before the Holocaust and Arab support of Hitler and is of course documented in the Koran

The first time I read this sentence I read, "Arab support of Hitler is documented in the Koran", and I thought, now, there's a novel assertion!

As Bernard Lewis points out, Arab anti-Semitism is of long standing, but until the 20th century it was of a different pattern from European anti-Semitism. Arabs thought of Jews as contemptible and clownish, there was never the undercurrent of suspecting them of being diabolically clever and controlling governments and business from the shadows. That was introduced by the Nazis, who introduced all their anti-Semitic propaganda to an eager Arab audience in the 30s. You still find all sorts of Nazi propaganda printed in the Arab papers, like the forgery where Ben Franklin purports to warn the 13 colonies against the Jews.

The Christian/Nazi anti-Semitism got another big push when the Arabs began to really feel their weakness, esp. with regard to not being able to push the Jews into the sea. As Lewis notes, losing the great colonial powers was bad enough; losing to a contemptible band of Jews was really insupportable! So there was a great deal of comfort in the Protocols for the Arabs.
