There is a huge gap between Reagan, the man, and Reagan the caricature that the liberals paint and believe.

Joe, that's not true. When I lived in LA, I heard quite a few stories about the Reagans along with other well known celebrities. The Reagans were pretty typical of other Hollywood celebrities with their fair share of skeletons in their closet. Their fighting with some of their kids was legendary and particularly acrimonious even in Hollywood. And yes, Nancy was seen as 'difficult' and a prima donna. In other words, the caricature was very close to the truth.

After hearing all that, it was pretty surprising to me to read the posts about him on this thread. Greatness? I don't think so. A superb mind? I don't think so. A great president? I don't think so.

You all can believe what you want but to me Reagan was a photogenic man who knew from his years in Hollywood how to manipulate the media and play to the crowd. I know what I say won't matter to you but the notion that historians might consider him great would really surprise me.

Then again, I don't believe he brought down the communist world as you all do.
