Rick,
The terrorists were chosen by bin Laden, he could have picked Pakistanis, Egyptians, Bosnians, Indians, British citizens... he wanted and picked Saudis.
Iraq was not under control, but contained after the first Gulf War - the evidence for this, is the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, Saddam killed after the war and during UN Sanctions. If you count the thousands of innocent who died from "Operation Iraqi Freedom", shouldn't you balance that with hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, who were killed by Saddam during UN Imposed Sanctions? Is it o.k. to have military forces in the region enforcing Sanctions and a "No Fly Zone" (the No Fly Zone was meant to hinder Saddam's ability to commit genocide against the Kurds and Shiites) in the skies, over an country, while - on the ground - genocide is being committed?
I realize that bin Laden's group will continue to attack Americans (military and civilian). But at least the United States will be able to soon remove two of the major reasons bin Laden declared war on the America - U.S. enforcement of UN Sanctions on Iraq, and U.S. troops being stationed in Saudi Arabia (used to enforce Sanctions and the "No Fly Zones"). |
