"It already is a separate entity before birth even if there isn't physical separation"

There are billions of separate entities in a human body (in your way of thinking). But they are irrelevant to the abortion question. The point of physical separation is that it allows TWO HUMAN separate entities to both have FREEDOM.

Everything in the universe is a potential human...or bee, or pebble. When it becomes actually "human" is when it knows a "self". Before that we respect that all creatures can experience pain at a certain point...and this is a paramount consideration for progressive humans.

Now it is true that the newly born do not have a "self"--a "self" exists only when it may be owned by someone--still...it is probably wanted at that point...and thus may perhaps survive for a day or a score.

Do you think an egg should be a legal person??

__________

Society can moralize against reprehensible behaviour (I don't mean that all abortions are such)--without undermining the bases of freedom and fundamental rights. The right to abortion is a natural right. Because it involves a conscious self...it includes the right to suicide. There is no intrinsic value to self determination absent a self...
