MovieCD to Be Rolled out in CompUSA Computer Superstores Nationwide

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1997--

Movies for Your Computer Prove to Be a Big Hit

Sirius Publishing Inc., has announced the availability of its MovieCD(TM) product line through all 132 stores of CompUSA Computer Superstores(SM), the nation's Leading Computer Superstore(R) retailer.

MovieCD delivers VHS quality, full-screen, full-motion video on home, office or laptop computers without the use of MPEG or other computer hardware peripherals. MovieCD plays on the existing installed base of over 30 million CD-ROM equipped computers in the U.S. Initially, CompUSA will offer 40 titles including the blockbuster hits Mortal Kombat(R), Seven and The Mask. Retail prices range from $9.99 to $19.99.

``We are extremely pleased that CompUSA has devoted valuable shelf space to this new software category,'' said Sirius' Chief Executive Officer Richard Gnant.

``When Sirius first approached us about carrying the line, we did not realize just how popular movies for your computer would be,'' stated Larry Mondry, executive vice president of merchandising for CompUSA. ``We had originally planned an 8 week test in select markets, however, the product was so well received by our customers we decided to roll-out the line nationally after only four weeks of product testing.''

Enthusiasm for MovieCD has grown considerably since its initial product launch earlier this year. ``Consumers themselves have answered the most frequently asked question -- `Who would want to watch a movie on their computer?' They have answered with their wallets, checkbooks and credit cards,'' claimed Michael Weiss, vice president of entertainment for Sirius.

Sirius has sold over 250,000 units of MovieCD titles to date and expects to ship 250,000 units monthly by first quarter of 1998.

MovieCD utilizes a proprietary video software compression technology developed by Sirius' sister company, Motion Pixels, to deliver images as crisp and clear as VHS videocassettes. ``Consumers already have CD-ROM capability and they don't need to purchase new machines or additional computer hardware or software for their PCs to play this innovative new product,'' Gnant said.

The minimum system requirements are Windows 3.1 or 95, 486/66 processor, 1MB RAM, double speed CD-ROM drive, local-bus video adapter with 1MB AM, 128Kb level 2 cache, sound card, mouse and speakers.

Consumers can visit the MovieCD website at moviecd.com for more information.
