At a minimum, I would have expected you to agree with the "peaceniks" on imminent threat portion....After all the administration has recently emphasized that Bush never said Iraq was an imminent threat.
And NEVER EMPHASIZED that Saddam was an imminent threat.
That myth is being perpetrated by the peaceniks in DELIBERATELY misquoting Bush.
What he stated was the Saddam was a potential emerging threat since we had no COMFIRMABLE evidence that he had ceased his WMD programs or his long-range missile programs. And we discovered that with the latter, he HAD violated the UN resolutions.
Don't just believe me.. read his SOTU speech again for yourself.. And then ask why, exactly, the peacenik pundits and liberals DELIBERATELY misled the American people to believe that he had said something he didn't:
whitehouse.gov
As for WMDs.. Bush merely laid out the facts, AS ALREADY REPORTED BY UNSCOM/UNMOVIC, and stated that Saddam had "given no evidence that he has destroyed it(WMDs)."
Again.. read it for yourself and ask exactly where you derived this BS opinion from that Bush claimed the threat was iminent. He NEVER said it..
However, what he WAS implying was that Saddam was a brutal murderous dictator who was NEVER going to "change his stipes" and rejoin the civilized world.. He was ALWAYS going to be biding his time, waiting for his chance to strike and dominate the region.. All that was required was patience and the US deciding that it could no longer politically justify containing his regime. As for those documents, they are relevant because they were discovered in a surprise inspection of an Iraqi air force facility, NOT because Saddam voluntarily handed them over. In fact, one of the "minders" accompanying the inspectors immediately confiscated them once he realized what they were (namely that 6,000 chemical warheads were unaccounted for in Iraq's previous numbers). UNSCOM demanded the documents be turned over, but Saddam refused. The Inspectors left because of Saddam's intransigence and later Clinton launched Operation Desert Fox in order to "convince" Saddam to comply (but really to cover up Monicagate). The documents were FINALLY turned over in November, 2002 (after UNSC 1441 and the US authorization to use force had been passed), but WITH NO ACCOUNTING FOR THE MISSING WEAPONS OR EXPLANATION FOR THE DOCUMENT.
Thus, the fact that the Iraqis confiscated it is pretty DAMN indicative that it was not fake.. Satisfied now? It would be nice to do some research for yourself rather than expecting others to do it for you.. This subject has been rehashed over and over again over the past 2 years.
And I'm sure the UNSCOM inspectors who were kicked out of Iraq
The inspectors got out because the US was about to bomb Iraq.
Again.. UNSCOM in 1998 were "kicked out" through non-cooperation!!!! UNMOVIC (which is what you are referring to) was established AFTER UNSC 1441 was passed...
Now listen.. you obviously don't have a very good understanding of what has transpired over the past 13 years since Desert Storm.. But I, and others on this thread, are willing to help you gain that understanding once you stop forming uninformed and blatantly false opinions.. I know I have a nasty "bite", but to me the facts are paramount, not the false rhetoric that many peaceniks like to spew around.
You appear to be the one ignoring the questions.
From a guy who doesn't know the difference between UNSCOM and UNMOVIC... Geez... Lord have mercy..
