Yes lorne, you sweep aside a Jew killing a Jew as acts of crazies, but when there is something like mosque bombing, then why is it not an act of crazies also. Why do we view that differently from the acts of Jews.
The difference is that the Jewish assassination was a single event, terribly shocking to Israeli society, condemned by all parties except a small fringe. The assassin is in jail for life.
The Arab killing of those Arabs they disagree with is official PA policy, is approved of by large number of Palestinians, and those who don't approve know to keep their mouths shut. The PA calls those marked for death "collaborators", a handy label for an opponent, whether he was one or not. The assassins walk free with guns.
By the way Arafat is an elected leader; Saddam was not.
My dear, you slander Saddam. Saddam was elected regularly, the last time only last year. Arafat won one single election against token opposition (a grandmother with no political experience) in 1996. His term ran out in 1999 but he has never bothered with another election.
Like Saddam, Arafat has never allowed the existence of an opposition party. All his instititutions are shams; he rules by setting one underling against another and changing frequently. Arafat came under huge pressure to appoint a PM this year but he has undermined that too. Abu Mazen lasted only 3 months and Abu Ala is not even fighting; the new Interior Minister is now Arafat's man. |
