It is not semantics. It is a moral position.

I am not devoid of respect for a developing human. I simply don't think the survival of an embryo has the moral stature of that of a born human. I think that is cavalier and disrespectful to flirt with pregnancy by using no contraception with the assumption that you can always have an abortion. That is a moral position. It may not be your preference for a moral position but it is mine and I'm entitled to it. It is also my moral position that destroying an embryo created despite one's best efforts at contraception need not provoke a moral response greater than an acknowledgment of the loss and some respectful sadness. Until and unless the fetus is viable and/or in a position to suffer, at which point things become more complicated, that seems appropriately moral to me. You may disagree whether that morality is optimum, but you can't argue that it is just semantics.
