Hi Nadine Carroll; Interesting exchange on shame based versus guilt based societies.

Re: "Short term, the only working answer that the guilt-based cultures have found is to match ferocity with even greater ferocity."

Like I've said before, the only way that the Arabs could be pacified is with total war, which means the slaughter of civilians similar to what the Germans did in WW2 (i.e. 5% of the Arab population, or about 5 million souls). Maybe it would take a higher number, maybe smaller, but certainly somewhere in the millions.

Like I've said before, there is not a chance in Hades that the US will sign up for an Arab genocide. And there is not a snowball's chance that Israel would survive prosecuting a genocide against the Arabs. It's highly unlikely that they would think seriously about it, much less try it.

As Sharon is slowly learning, force doesn't work except in quantities that he does not have available. Nazi Germany could get away with ordering their soldiers to treat civilians like beef, but Germany was at war under a totalitarian regime, while Israel is at peace and is a more or less democratic society. Therefore people feel much more free to whistle blow attempted genocides.

What converted Germany was a massacre of her civilian population, followed by decades of peaceful relations. The Arabs have never had the massacre. The decades of peaceful relations have not yet even begun.
