This is just another way of saying that the French are idiots

While I would generally agree that the French are idiots (at least their current crop of politicos), that wasn't what I was saying at all, which you might realize if the Carl Bilow Reality Distortion Field weren't operating at such high voltage.

What I said was, that the French were constrained to make certain statements that ran against their own interests at the time. Why? to preserve their credibility, since denying facts known to all does not help your argument in Western circles at least (obviously, Baghdad Bob played by a different set of rules). If the statement that Saddam had WMD programs, probably operating until the present, was one they could have credibly denied, they would have. It was in their interests. Now that we have Iraqi Intelligence papers, we know just how much in their interests it was.

The rest is spin.
