Let's get something straight, Floyd. I would never recommend that anyone use a product that is unsafe when used as directed. This is especially true of a three year old child who does not have the ability to understand the risks, and trusts an adult to keep him safe. The issues are not as black and white as you suggest. You apparently have concluded that Zicam Cold Remedy isn't safe just because of a few complaints found on the Internet. Anecdotal complaints that a product is unsafe are no more convincing, scientific or otherwise, than anecdotal suggestions that a product works. Why do you totally discount the latter but jump all over the former to defend a negative position on this company?

Nearly every product sold to consumers is unsafe if not used as directed. You can cut your finger off with a Henckels knife while chopping onions. You can burn yourself with Clorex bleach while doing the laundry You can harm yourself by swallowing Listerine while gargling. If Zicam Cold Remedy is unsafe under certain conditions, I trust that the company will address the situation in one of several ways. They might change the design of the pump. They might add additional warnings to the label. They might alter the instructions. All the ingredients in Zicam Cold Remedy are generally recognized as safe by the FDA. That is a fact. The company has more insight into the number of consumer complaints versus number of users than you do. If two million people have used Zicam Cold Remedy and 25 complain, should the product be considered unsafe? Of those 25 complaints, can a direct cause and effect between Zicam and their aledged injury be established? Every company should ensure that their products are safe when used as directed. Every company should guard against injury by warning users how to use their products safely and warn of potential side effects. That said, to conclude that Zicam isn't safe, or caused anyone harm just because of a handful of anecdotal complaints is just as naive as concluding that it works because your cold went away when you used it. You are a hypocrite for condeming the latter while promoting the former.

The bottom line is that I am confident that the company is or has addressed these issues and will take appropriate action if warranted. The market apparently agrees with me considering that the stock continues to rise. Consumers apparently agree with me since usage continues to increase with no apparent increase in complaints. By the way, did you know that the incidence of anosmia is reportedy higher in the general population than in the subset of Zicam Cold Remedy users. What does that tell you?
