The two conversations I had with Jindal before he announced dealt exclusively with his conversion to Catholicism because, frankly, I'm very wary of GOP candidates with a religious agenda. I asked him point-blank if his conversion was of the road-to-Damascus variety, which he denied. It was, as later reported by the press after his announcement, a gradual conversion during his teenage years. Good enough for me, since I trust born again politicians about as far as I can throw them.

He's a social and religious conservative, but he's not pushing this aspect of things. I agree with something pointed out by local GOP insiders--Jindal is far too smart to believe a lot of the far right-wing stuff he supposedly stands for. Probably a stance for Bubba's benefit.

As far as the Louisiana "vampire" image--something Anne Rice exloits to make buckets of money. The tourist industry doesn't mind having all the google-eyed poseurs come down to the Spooky Bayou and spending a lot of money while here, either.
