Hawk, yes those tribes are in Afghanistan also. Recall the Northern alliance. That region is a highly fragmented region and the Russian military might failed there also. But I thought that the US had a stranglehold on the Al-Qaeda during the Afghan assault, and they squandered away that opportunity. I think the majority of the tribes in Afghanistan, during the US assault backed the US and they were pissed off at the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Even the Arab world supported the US move.

But the moment the US turned towards Iraq, then it turned to be viewed as a Islamo-Judeo war.
