I think the majority of the tribes in Afghanistan, during the US assault backed the US and they were pissed off at the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Even the Arab world supported the US move.

To the first, yes.. But the Arabs, especially the Saudis, were a bit upset that all of that money they gave to the Taliban was now for nothing.

But after Massoud was assassinated, it was fair to say that the Northern Alliance lost its moral center and regressed to their previous warlord/opium hearts...

So now the critical necessity is to create a viable Afghan military that can gradually reassert control over these warlords (with a bit of US assistance, if necessary).

They will eventually succumb to Kabul's authority (or be eliminated).

But the moment the US turned towards Iraq, then it turned to be viewed as a Islamo-Judeo war.

That's just a co-opt.. Everything can be construed by your average Arab conspiratorialist into some kind of Jewish plot.. Hell, they even tried to claim the Jews were responsible for 9/11. All while Palestinians and various other Arabs danced in glee at the fall of the twin towers.

It's like these Iraqis that cheer the loss of a US helicopter. Were I there, I would surreptitiously surround all of these crowds and round them up for intensive "interviewing" about their sympathies.

If you can't win their hearts and minds willingly, then provide them with a free "attitude adjustment" that lets them know they can't get away with cheering the deaths of US troops.
