I heard Laura married a rich, powerful known alcoholic and laid it on the line to him at one point. But that didn't stop him from drinking. What stopped him drinking was George Schultz of Bectel taking him aside and telling him he could be the next governor and they'd fund him (meaning the big power-polluter-CIA companies) if he'd straighten out. He did. Got "religion". Finally he could compete with Poppy. Gw was always a momma's boy but was mad at his parents for favoring Jeb. At one point he hated his father and still is uneasy with him. Boy did he show them huh? Mommy loves him now.
