You are quite correct in you comment about Expansion of slavery. Such expansion was caused due to Cotton being so hard on the soil and the need to continually move west to new fields. So, I agree with you there. However, regarding my nanny, if I understand you correctly if my Nanny was WHITE then she wouldnt have been considered our servant but being BLACK, alas she was demeaned in that role. Now tell me WHOS THE RACIST HERE? (gg) For your INFO, when I was a youth (this was even BEFORE so called Civil Rights) the black population was about 8% of our total in the USA. Even then, I suggested to all that would listen, this isnt worth fighting over, just have a SMALL percentage of the white population marry the black and we can turn them all GREY in one or two generations. (gg). Sadly, Northerners were AGHAST at the idea. And, if you knew blacks as well as I do, you would find THEY TOO were opposed to interracial marriage. Doesnt bother me one bit either way. I have our family tree going back to the American Revolution and the FRONTIER. Learned a lot of my forebearers married Indians cause THERE WERE INSUFFICIENT WHITE WOMEN on the frontier and those that were there died YOUNG. Many of my "greats" had multiple wifes over THEIR lifetimes. So, I am a MIXED BREED myself. jdn |
