Hitler used the Weimer laws up until 1938. The Weimar laws fully registered all weapons, making the next steps of confiscation of military weapons and possession by jews, communists and others that might resist a lot easier and the arrest of opponents a lot easier. These are the same reasons why Dems want Registration so they can send the Jack-booted BATF into our homes to attack us knowing full well that gun owners didn't vote for them and are thus their political opponents just as communists were Hitler's opponents. The Nazi Weapons Law (or_Waffengesetz_) which further restricted the possession of militarily useful weapons and forbade trade in weapons without a government-issued license was passed on March 18, 1938. (Boy this sounds a lot like the Feinstein Assault Weapons Ban to me. I always knew she was a Nazi). On November 11,1938, another gun control law disarmed the Jews. Pretty hard to defend yourself when you are disarmed. Kristallnact occurred just before. Here is the text of that law. You are probably wondering why the law was after Kristallnacht. Read the text of the law against Jews owning guns and you can bet that law was enforced using the Weimar era registration records.
