It is certainly the gov't's prerogative (at least these days)to set its fiscal policy. When the gov't tells private citizens what they shall do with their own money, though, it's way over the line.

I think it is treasonous for the administration to pull out all the stops to get consumers to keep spending and building up more debt
What is the administration doing to do that? Low interest rates? Doesn't this come under the umbrella of the sort of fiscal management modern capitalist gov'ts do? Or are you advocating a return to 19th century America when individual banks issued currency?
