gpowell,

While I may be more or less indifferent to parts of your post, especially efficiency, everything you say is true.

In a modern, division of labor, mass production, economy, one to one price negotiations are simply too costly in time and effort to be practical for most goods. This why most goods have a large number of potential buyers and a small number of suppliers. In this circumstance, it makes sense for suppliers to post list prices, even if eventual transactions also include an element of negotiations as well.

The post that you replied to was a small part of a larger discussion.

The overall subject is the question of reimporting prescription drugs and their prices.

The public discussion of the issue includes a number of elements said to be involved in the determination of pricing, but which are in fact side issues, or are involved in ways that are different than claimed.

Some of these issues are :

1. Foreign fixed prices
2. R&D costs
3. Advertising

These or other issues can be discussed, if desired.

Thanks for your reply.

Regards, Don
