here is what I know on Iraq and Romans
I believe about 6-8 weeks ago an article appeared which I read
it might have been a NYTimes article
might have been a Newsweek article
might have been a European Security source article
unsure

it mentioned how the Romans dealt with Iraqis in the 2nd century, I believe
all went well for 10-12 years
then all hell broke loose with ambushes and uprisings
guerrilla wars were not common back then
Romans fared poorly
eventually, after suffering considerable losses, the Romans abandoned the area

I remember the article like I read it yesterday
but not the source
if that invalidates the story in your mind, so be it
it does not in mine
but corroboration would be nice, regardless
the Romans dabbled ALL OVER THE PLACE, including Ireland and England
if they never bivouacked in Iraq over two centuries, I will eat my 2-day-old shorts
they were megalomaniacs, tried & true
