Away from stocks, the fixed-income market and currency futures were closed today in observance of Veterans Day. Cash currencies saw thin trading, with the dollar weaker against the yen and the euro. Silver was down 0.5% and gold was up about 0.5%. It's worth noting that thousands of out-of-the-money calls traded in the gold market today. The dealer who alerted me pointed out the sizable negative gamma building up above the market, meaning that if the gold market were ever to surpass $400, we might see some real fireworks
