I haven't heard anything else about this since that show. Will try to check around and see if they ever found a witness. Although right now I just got in from a rehearsal and am tired, hungry and irritable, so maybe later.
I guess I figured if the school and parents punished him, there must have been if not a witness, then maybe some admission on his part or some sort of verification beyond her accusation. Otherwise, wouldn't the parents have raised a ruckus right away?
But really, I think it was not the incident that bothered me, as much as the overreaction to it, whether it was consensual or not. There is a sliding measurement of offenses in the schools that is often inconsistent, and that has gone beyond absurd at times. My objection goes again to understanding the developing child and his inability to make responsible choices all the time. Except in extreme cases, our job as adults should be teaching, correcting, training, and when a child of 13 makes choices which are questionable, not punishing to the extent that we damage a life. |
