Howard Simons has this write up on the Baltic freight index (BDIY: basket of various world shipping rates)), as an indicator of interest rates and global economic conditions.

The BDIY has gone parabolic over the last couple months. This just illustrates without doubt how overheated and maladjusted the world economy has gotten as the CBs continue to fight false "deflation" (the great Greenspan pump/hype/mistake). In my view a huge readjustment (and economic correction) lies immediately ahead, and I will post (for tracking purposes), the Bloomberg link to the BDIY at the lab tool section.
