Except for Powell, Bushies snubbed the UN badly. They kept calling them irrelevant, playing to the go-it-alone hardline right-wing crowd, fueling boycots of French and German products, insinuating the Russians and Euros were appeasers, nebver even giving them the chance to have a calm debate in their countries. This on top of ramming SDI down their throats and backing out of the Kyoto Treaty, which is a very important type of global union. 9-11 created a wave of sympathy and Afghanistan was a lulu in US-Intenational relations, but then Bush suddenly basically announced "We're invading Iraq". He didn't use those words but he might as well have "With us or against us", the old totalitarian attitude. So guess what, most of them decided F you GW. The UN inspections were going fine then Bush decided to go ahead, using all the phony evidence and exaggerated dangers as his rationale. At the time, even most of the US wanted him to take his time and go the UN route, but once he decided we had to "back the troops". Well Bush cannot hide behind "the troops" any longer. He has gotten hundreds of troops killed and if even cutting veterans benefits at home. However, yesterday he did announce three new veterans cemeteries. What a patriot.
