I know that the male reaction to your statement about controlling women through pregnancy will be upsetting to the guys, but I think probably it has validity if they would be honest about it. I don't mean in the personal immediate sense, but in some deeper, maybe atavistic sense
Possibly for some, but certainly not for all. I think it's one of those stereotypes (like that women are less logical than men, or that blacks have lower IQs than whites) that may be true on a mid-point-of-the-bell-curve but are subtantively inaccurate and do far more harm than good.
And similarly for your remark that men don't acknowledge what pregnancy and childbirth do to a woma's life. For some men, particularly teenagers, I'm sure that's true. But most men I know are fully aware of both the good and bad effects. And there are some men who are far more affected in the long term (not during the pregnancy, certainly, but after the birth) by having children than the women are. There are many men now staying home with the children while their wives go out to work.
So I think that what you're presenting are stereotypes that, like most stereotypes, have some historical basis in some truth, but which, again, do more harm than good in looking at life today. |
