AO MOSENERGO completes the design work on two high voltage substations

30.10.2003 ã.

Next year AO MOSENERGO plans to begin the construction of two new high voltage substations in Moscow – a 220 kV substation Konkovo and a 110 kV substation Chkalovskaya. The need for these two substations is caused by high housing construction rates in Moscow and annual power consumption increase by 5%. Chkalovskaya substation will ensure reliable power supply in the district surrounding Khodynskoye Field in the North West of Moscow. Konkovo power station will provide electricity to Konkovo district in the South West of Moscow.

Today, specialists from Mosenergoproject Institute, an AO MOSENERGO division, completed the development of the substations' project designs. New substations will be closed-type facilities, i.e. all equipment will be installed inside the substations. This design including noise-reduction equipment will make the operation of substations practically inconspicuous for its neighbors. The architectural design of these two substations will meet the latest design trend of urban architecture.

The new substations will be equipped with the latest high-technology equipment. AO MOSENERGO will install two 80,000 kVA transformers manufactured by Elektrozavod. Less powerful 63,000 kVA transformers will be installed at Konkovo substation. The substations will have an automated control and monitoring system, which will make possible remote operation of these facilities. In accordance with the design, reliable and compact sulphur switches will be installed at the substations.

As opposed to most Moscow substations, Chkalovskaya will transform 110 kV power into 20 and 10 kV (ususlly substations produce 6 or 10 kV). Similar technology is implemented only at the City substation, which was put into operation last June. This technology increases the amount of supplied power and decreases power losses. Today, the 20 kV transmission is widely used in all developed countries.

Though the design work has not yet been completed, AO MOSENERGO is actively preparing for the construction of the substations. Since October 1, AO MOSENERGO has been preparing the construction site. In the near future the Company will dig a pit. Actual construction work will begin late this year or early next year.
