John Kerry is the most competitive candidate against Bush. He is the strongest or tied as the strongest candidate against Bush in each of the last 13 national polls. Karl Rove is salivating at the thought of Howard Dean as Bush's opponent next year. If you want to beat Bush, nominate the strongest candidate to run against him.

The most recent Des Moines Register poll shows Kerry moving up to a statistical tie with former front-runner Dean - who is now 7 points behind Gephardt. Kerry's first ads went on TV in Iowa this week and have been extremely well received.

In New Hampshire, it's a two-man race between Kerry and Dean. Dean is ahead, but polls throughout the fall show that lead narrowing. Dean has not increased his support, while Kerry's numbers continue to improve. What was a 21 point gap in late August is a 13-15 point gap in October/early November and a six point margin in a recent Suffolk University poll. A recent poll found that undecided voters in NH have a much more favorable opinion of John Kerry than of Howard Dean; 42% compared to 21%. Former NH Governor Jeanne Shaheen is now John's National Campaign Chair.
