Don't be so forgiving of the french and germans. The french demanded to be in on planning then passed everything on to Saddom that we were planning, ie. invasion. That's serious espionage, betrayal of an allie. The reason they did was that the French/German axis was/is interested in promoting the Euro as the currency of choice over the dollar in the world. They were wooing the Arab oil money to come invest in the Euro and we (Americans) cannot have that. The Arab oil money finances our national debt!! We did have an interest in putting real fear into the Arabs to stop that potential capital flight to the Euro. And the french stabbing us in the back was because of that financial war going on behind the scenes. The wanted America to fail so the Arabs could feel safe in investing their oil money in the Euro and thereby helping the Euro surpass the US dollar in desirability.
