Considering that he predicted it, modified his troops to combat it in post-war Germany ("werewolves" were expected to engage in prolonged attacks), and fully improvised during his recapture of Bastogne using the techniques he'd developed, it's surprising that the military forgot the lessons he'd taught.

Most commentary from Korea was that the lessons from WWII that Patton taught were lost, since he wasn't well considered politically.

"We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything, except the enemy! We're going to hold on to him by the nose, and we're gonna kick 'em in the ass!"

Why the terrorists can never win - "No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country." Percentage-wise, the terrorists are losing.
I'm currently finishing "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond. GREAT book. Really explains why Al-Qaeda is doomed, without actually mentioning them or what they do. All you need to do is read into the lessons of history.
