Consider putting a firewall between the LinkSys router and the DSL router.
My choice would be a Netscreen 5XT or 5GT:

These may be more costly than you'd like, though, and have features (like VPN) that you may not need. (A VPN allows you to link two or more remote offices securely over the Internet). They are excellent products, though.
There are many less expensive products on the market, and there are DSL routers that have built-in firewall capabilities. You might want to see if your DSL provider can supply one of these or allows you to supply your own DSL router.
If you are in a high-density housing area, you may want to consider still running firewall software on your PCs, due to the wireless risk. This gets complicated, though, because then you have to set up the software firewalls on the PCs to allow the local network traffic to get through. If you live in a single-family home a reasonable-size yard, and respectable neighbors, I wouldn't worry so much about that. :)
In any case, make sure that you have secured your wireless network. WEP is NOT completely secure, though, and can be hacked. Don't leave your wireless network open to anybody to connect without an PIN, though, in any case. |
