JT - my setup is:

DSL - phone jack on the wall .no dsl modem straight out of the wall ----->cable to Linksys Wireless AP/router---->cable to Desktop.

my notebook connects 802.11 to the Linksys AP.

"clean" over on SNDK thread says that the Linksys operating DHCP dishes out IP addresses to its ownsubnet and therefore is its own "firewall" . I think that is what he is telling me.

It seems that wireless APsare by definition firelwalls unless you configure them to be open.
